![]() I really liked her more when she stood up for the people at the Shelter when the Militia attempted to do them harm, when they were unnecessarily rough. It made for a refreshing change, and I liked her all the more for it. ![]() What I liked most about this character was that she wasn’t chatty-she didn’t need to continuously ask questions, she always kept her own council, and she rarely spoke to the others around her. ![]() What she’s does next shocks her family-she signs up for the Militia, even though she’s the youngest applicant to do this, at the tender age of fifteen. Which is why Phaeta (pronounced “fate”) doesn’t want her brother and sister to wind up there after her mother gets arrested. The ones that don’t are sent to the Shelter which has horrible conditions, bad air and little food all around. This book is set on the moon, where everyone has a specific and unique job. This is one of the books that helped me get out of my reading slump that I’ve been in, lately, and I’m pleased that it has. ![]() Karen Bao knows how to write, and she knows how to write extremely well. It reminded me very much of Hunger Games-but set in space! The characters were incredibly lifelike, the edginess of the story made me keep flipping pages until the very end. ![]()
